Bowen Therapy

What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy is a gentle, hands on treatment that is an effective solution to chronic pain. It is a vibrational healing that balances the Autonomic Nervous System (responsible for stress and relaxation) using a series of simple, gentle moves across muscle and connective tissue. The technique is so gentle it can be used on anyone from infants to the elderly. It is fast acting, long lasting, effective, and very relaxing.

How does it work?

Your doctor will stimulate meridian points in a specific order, with pauses in between to switch the body into parasympathetic healing mode prompting it to rest, repair and balance itself.

Its success comes from integrating the innate healing of the musculature and the spine. It is incredibly effective for treating physical and emotional pain, while addressing structural, functional and psychological problems.

What conditions does it treat?

Bowen Therapy is widely used for pain management; post-concussion pain, low back pain, injury pain or any pain you experience. It can also be used to heal respiratory conditions, ADHD, anxiety, migraines, scoliosis and chronic fatigue. This list is not exhaustive and your doctor will be able to tell you if Bowen Therapy is an effective form of treatment for you.

What can I expect during a treatment?

The treatment will usually last between 45 minutes to an hour and is performed over loose clothing. In this time, your doctor will perform a series of gentle moves over specific points in the body and then allow the body to rest before the next series of moves. It is not a forceful or deep tissue treatment.

How many sessions are needed?

Bowen Therapy works quickly and you may see positive changes anywhere between 3 - 12 treatments. Treatments are usually performed once a week until recovery is achieved.

Our Approach

Throughout our treatments, we combine traditional and modern practices, extensive knowledge of the foundations of health and the gentle touch of someone who cares. The Principles of Naturopathic Medicine are our guiding light reminding us that every patient is unique so every treatment must be too; so, our first step is always getting a full picture of your whole health, physically, mentally and emotionally, to help us identify what is out of balance and determine a truly individual-to-you treatment plan.

We’re creative in our approach to healing and utilize all of the tools available to us including new technology, continued education and breakthrough treatments keeping us on the cutting edge of healthcare. However, we always come back to the Principles of Naturopathic Medicine and the knowledge and wisdom that has been handed down to us by our mentors and predecessors. That knowledge is woven into our practice everyday and continues to inspire us to stay true to our roots.
