Chelation Therapy

What is Chelation Therapy?

Chelation Therapy is a series of intravenous injections aimed at removing toxic heavy metals such as lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, copper and aluminum. The chelating agents bind to these toxins and flush them out of your system. It is considered a powerful detox and reduces the level of pollutants in your body.

Heavy metals are found in all of us and, in excessive quantities, can build up to toxic levels that interfere with normal bodily functions, leading to symptoms or a disease.

How does it work?

Chelation Therapy is conducted intravenously through IV drips where a synthetic solution — EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) — is injected into the bloodstream to remove heavy metals and/or minerals from the body.

Chelation Therapy increases circulation to the heart or other areas of the body by reducing inflammation and opening up smaller blood vessels and improving metabolic and circulatory functions. The chelating agent has a strong affinity to heavy metals. It binds to heavy metals and allows them to be excreted in the urine and feces. The chelating agent used can differ depending on the heavy metal we are trying to remove.

What conditions does it treat?

Chelation Therapy has primarily been used in the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease and to clear heavy metals from the body. It can also be used to  benefit those with heart disease, high blood pressure, Diabetes, Arteriosclerosis, Congestive Heart Failure, Arthritis, Scleroderma, Heavy Metal Detoxification, Anti-aging, Coronary Artery Disease, Peripheral Artery Disease, Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, Family History of Cardiovascular Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease.

What can I expect during a treatment?

Intravenous treatments require a drip in your arm for between 1.5 - 3 hours. Your doctor will continue to conduct blood tests throughout your treatment to ensure your safety. There will also be several follow up treatments to make sure you have responded well to the treatments.

How many sessions are needed?

The number of treatments needed when removing heavy metals is dependent on the amount of heavy metal present. A urine test may be used to ascertain the amount of heavy metal that is present.

For patients undergoing chelation therapy for a cardiovascular disease, chelation is typically performed twice a week for as long as your doctor deems necessary.
