Acupuncture

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine used to cure many conditions. It involves inserting very thin sterilized needles into special points on the body that are determined based on your individual health concerns. The stimulation of these points helps to rebalance the flow of the ‘qi’ (your internal energy). By rebalancing the qi you can reduce pain and help to regulate organ systems that are not functioning optimally. It is safe, effective and treats not just the pain but the whole body without side effects.

How does it work?

Your doctor creates an individualized map of your meridians and points on your body that need to be stimulated, based on your health concerns and needs. They will then insert the needles into those predetermined points.

Acupuncture efficacy is a result of the needles interrupting neural pathways and encouraging local circulation which leads to a reduction in pain and inflammation on the body and is known to help regulate organ systems that aren’t functioning optimally.

What can I expect during a treatment?

Treatments are painless. The needles used are so small that the most you will feel is a small pinch upon insertion of the needles, if anything at all! Once the needles have been positioned correctly, you will likely experience a sense of relaxation. After treatment, you may feel an internal sense of ‘calm’ or an increase in energy.

What conditions does it treat?

  • Joint and muscular pain and injuries

  • Chronic pain management

  • Digestive disorders

  • Insomnia

  • Stress

How many sessions are needed?

You can expect to see results after 4 - 10 treatments, depending on the condition you are treating. Long term improvements for more chronic conditions generally require more frequent visits.
