Naturopathic immune support in Vancouver
Cold and flu season is a good time to check in on the basics that support your health: sleep, nutrition, stress, daylight and movement. At Vancouver Naturopathic Clinic, our licensed naturopathic doctors take the time to look at your health history and the bigger picture, then build a fall and winter plan with you.
What an immune support visit looks like
Your first appointment is 60 minutes with one of our naturopathic doctors. We'll talk through:
- How often you get sick, and how long it usually takes you to feel like yourself again
- Sleep, stress, nutrition and activity through the darker months
- Your current medications and supplements, so anything we suggest fits safely with them
- Whether lab work would be useful, such as vitamin D or iron levels (we refer you to an outside lab for these)
From there we build an individualized plan with you and, where it helps, coordinate with your family doctor.
Frequently asked questions
How can I support my immune system through cold and flu season?
The foundations matter most: regular sleep, balanced meals with enough protein and vegetables, time outdoors in daylight, regular movement, and managing stress. Handwashing and staying home when you're sick help protect the people around you. A visit is a chance to look at which of these are hardest for you and what fits your life.
Why do I seem to get sick all the time?
Many things can play a part, including poor sleep, ongoing stress, low iron or vitamin D, and other health conditions. Your naturopathic doctor will take a full history and may refer you for lab tests to look for factors worth addressing. If something needs medical follow-up, we'll let you know and work with your family doctor.
What about a cough that won't go away after a cold?
A cough can linger for a few weeks after a cold. Please see your family doctor or a walk-in clinic if your cough lasts more than three weeks, or sooner if you have trouble breathing, chest pain, a high fever, or are coughing up blood. Our naturopathic doctors can work alongside your medical care on rest, nutrition and comfort measures.
Do you offer IV vitamin C?
Yes. IV vitamin C is one of the IV nutrient therapies we offer. It supports antioxidant function and immune support. Before any IV, a naturopathic doctor reviews your health history to make sure it's appropriate for you, and every IV is given in-clinic under professional supervision. New patients who are only interested in IV therapy can call to book a 15-minute consultation. Learn more about IV nutrient therapy.
Individual responses to IV therapy may vary. IV therapy is not a substitute for medical care.
Should I take vitamin D in the winter in Vancouver?
At Vancouver's latitude there is little usable winter sun, and Health Canada sets recommended daily vitamin D intakes by age. The right amount for you depends on your diet, health history and medications, so it's worth reviewing with your doctor rather than guessing. If it's useful, we can refer you for a blood test at an outside lab to check your level.
Do you see children for immune support?
Yes. All of our naturopathic doctors see children and teens. We'll look at sleep, nutrition and daily routines, and work alongside your child's family doctor or paediatrician.
Do you work with my family doctor?
Yes. Naturopathic doctors in BC are licensed and regulated health professionals. With your permission, we're happy to share your plan and coordinate with your other care providers. We encourage you to follow public health guidance, including talking with your health care provider about seasonal vaccines.
